Terms & Conditions
These terms are an agreement between you and oqou(“we”, “us”) for your use of the oqou app and the oqou.app website. By downloading or using oqou, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please don’t use the app.
1. The service
oqou turns text you provide — books, articles, PDFs, or pasted passages — into a language-learning experience: tap-to-translate, a glossary, read-aloud, spaced-repetition review, and optional AI explanations. Some features are free; others require a paid oqou Pro subscription.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country) to use oqou.
3. Subscriptions & billing
oqou Pro is an auto-renewable subscription sold through the Apple App Store. The available plans and their prices are shown in the app before you purchase.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings, not within oqou. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.
- Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with the App Store terms.
The free tier has limits (such as a cap on the number of saved documents); Pro removes those limits and unlocks the cloud explanation and premium voice features. We may adjust the features in each tier over time; material reductions to an active paid plan will be communicated in advance.
4. Your content
You keep all rights to the documents and text you import. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use that material, and you agree not to import content that is illegal or that infringes someone else’s rights. We claim no ownership of your content and process it only to provide the app’s features to you — on your device, or transiently through our backend when you use a cloud feature.
5. AI features & accuracy
Translations, explanations, and generated voices are produced by automated systems and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. They are provided as a learning aid only and are not a substitute for professional or authoritative language instruction. Please verify anything important.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the app for any unlawful purpose or to import infringing content;
- abuse, overload, or attempt to circumvent the limits or security of our cloud services (including the device-integrity checks);
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source from the app except where that right cannot be excluded by law;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the app or its output.
7. Intellectual property
The oqou app, name, design, and original content are owned by oqou or our licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. Open-source and third-party components are credited on our Acknowledgements page and remain under their own licenses.
8. Third-party services
oqou relies on services from Apple, Google, RevenueCat, and AI providers. Your use of the app is also subject to the applicable Apple App Store terms (including the standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement). We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
9. Disclaimers
The app is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its output will be accurate.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, oqou will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Termination
You may stop using oqou at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms or misuse the service.
12. Changes
We may update the app and these terms. When we make material changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use oqou after changes take effect means you accept the revised terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [your jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where mandatory local consumer-protection laws give you additional rights.
