Woher das stammt

Die Reihenfolge ist gemessen: Sie stammt daraus, wie oft jedes Wort in einem großen Korpus vorkommt, gezählt über alle Formen eines Wortes zusammen statt über jede Form einzeln, sodass ein Verb dort steht, wo man ihm wirklich begegnet. Die Grenzen zwischen den Stufen sind dagegen eine Konvention und keine Messung. Nichts sagt, dass Wort 501 schwerer wäre als Wort 500; die Stufen sind dort geschnitten, wo etablierte Lektürereihen ihre schneiden.

Woher kommt die Reihenfolge?

Daraus, wie oft jedes Wort in einem großen Korpus alltäglicher Texte vorkommt. Die Häufigkeit wird über alle Formen eines Wortes zusammengezählt und der Wörterbuchform zugeschrieben, sodass ein Verb dort steht, wo eine Leserin ihm wirklich begegnet, statt sich über ein Dutzend Endungen zu verteilen.

Warum sind diese Listen kürzer als die mit 5.000 oder 10.000 Wörtern?

Weil ein Häufigkeitsrang jenseits von etwa 2.500 kaum noch etwas bedeutet. Rang 6.000 in einem Web-Korpus ist kein schwereres Wort, sondern ein Wort, das zufällig im Journalismus häufig ist. Etablierte Lektürereihen hören aus demselben Grund bei rund 2.500 auf.

Sind alle Wörter echte Wörterbucheinträge?

Ja. Jedes Stichwort wird gegen den Wiktionary-Eintrag der Sprache geprüft, woher auch Wortart, Genus und Bedeutung stammen. Diese Prüfung entfernt die Eigennamen, einzelnen Buchstaben und den Korpus-Müll, von denen rohe Häufigkeitslisten voll sind.

Brauche ich die App?

Hat das ein Muttersprachler geprüft?

Noch nicht. Häufigkeitsreihenfolge und Wortart sind mechanisch, und die Bedeutungen stammen aus einem Wörterbuch statt aus der Feder, aber nichts davon hat eine muttersprachliche Prüfung durchlaufen. Wenn Ihnen eine Bedeutung auffällt, die formal richtig und praktisch nutzlos ist, hören wir gern davon.
