Why read Chinese this way

Beginner Chinese reading practice is usually character drills, which teach recognition but not comprehension. Following a story is a different skill: knowing 门 does not mean you can tell who went through it. These are whole short stories with an ending, and the questions ask what happened rather than what a character means.

Pick a language and a short story, graded A1 or A2.
Read it at your own pace. The story stays one tap away during the questions.
Answer four questions and see which ones you missed, and why.

Questions about the test

Simplified or traditional characters?

Simplified. The vocabulary is everyday and repeats within each story, so common characters come up often enough to stick.

Is this HSK practice?

No, and it does not follow the HSK format. It is free A1 to A2 story comprehension, which is the reading habit the lower HSK levels are built on.
