Why read French this way

French reads far better than it sounds to a beginner, which is why reading is where most people first feel fluent in it. The gap is usually between recognising the words and following the thread. These stories are short enough to hold in your head at once, and the questions ask about the thread, not the vocabulary.

Pick a language and a short story, graded A1 or A2.
Read it at your own pace. The story stays one tap away during the questions.
Answer four questions and see which ones you missed, and why.

Questions about the test

Are the questions in French or in English?

In French. They use the story's own vocabulary and stay short at A1, so understanding the story is enough to answer them.

What level are these texts?

A1 and A2. Short sentences, everyday situations, present and simple past narration. If you can read a menu and a short message, you can start here.
